What it can do in a journal
These are the things Dawn Light Plus uses Apple's on-device model for. Everything is drawn from your own words, and the transcript stays exactly as you said it.
- Lay out each entry as short points: what happened, how it felt, what's next
- Suggest a title, tags and a mood, and note the people and places you mention
- Offer one gentle follow-up question, which you can answer by talking
- Build a weekly recap, Your week, from that week's entries
- Answer a question like "When did Priya visit?" with links to the entries behind it
What it doesn't do
- Change your words. The summary sits above them, and the full text is one tap away
- Give advice or pass judgement. It's asked to include only what you said
- Invent feelings or plans you didn't mention
- Handle every subject. Apple's model turns down some entries about very hard things, and those stay saved with every word
Devices that support it
Apple's list in October 2026 is below. Apple Intelligence also needs free storage and your device and Siri language set to the same supported language.
| What | Requirement |
|---|---|
| iPhone | iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone Air |
| iPad | iPad mini (A17 Pro) and iPad models with M1 or later |
| Storage | Up to 8 GB on most models, up to 14 GB on some newer ones |
| Language | Device and Siri language set to the same supported language |
How to turn it on
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
- Tap Apple Intelligence & Siri
- Turn on Apple Intelligence
- Wait while the model downloads. Until it's ready, Dawn Light says Apple Intelligence is still getting ready
Where your words go
Apple's on-device model runs on your iPhone or iPad, so an app that uses it doesn't need to send your entries anywhere. Other journal apps use cloud AI instead, so read their privacy policy before you pour your life into one. Dawn Light has no server, and nothing you say is sent to one, ours or anyone else's.
If your device doesn't support it
You can still keep a full voice journal. In Dawn Light, recording, transcripts, search, the calendar and iCloud sync all work on any iPhone or iPad with iOS 26 or iPadOS 26. Entries are saved with every word, just without a summary or title.
Questions about Apple Intelligence and journaling
Are the Apple Intelligence features free in Dawn Light?
Your first entry is summarized free. After that, summaries, recaps and Ask are part of Plus. Recording, transcripts and search stay free with no limit.
Can a summary be wrong?
Yes, sometimes it misses a detail or a shade of feeling. That's why the full text stays under Your words, exactly as you said it.
Which languages does it work in?
The languages Apple Intelligence supports, which in October 2026 include English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese and several more. Entries in other languages are still saved with every word.
