Common fixes

Making an entry

Tap the record button on Today and talk. Pause stops the clock if you need a moment, and Done saves the entry. If you would rather type, tap Type instead, or the pencil at the top of Today.

Recording without opening the app first

Add Record an entry to Control Center, the Lock Screen or the Action button, or say "Record a Dawn Light entry" to Siri. Each one opens Dawn Light straight into a new recording. In the app, Settings has the steps under Record from Control Center or the Lock Screen.

The first recording downloads something

The first time you record in a language, your device downloads Apple's speech model for it. That needs a connection once. After that, recording and transcripts work with no connection at all.

An entry wasn't summarized or titled

Summaries need Apple Intelligence, which runs on an iPhone 15 Pro or later and on recent iPads. It has to be turned on in your device's Settings under Apple Intelligence and Siri. Summaries are part of Plus, apart from your first entry. Apple's model also turns down some entries about very hard subjects. Those entries are saved with every word, and you can add a title and tags yourself.

Languages

Choose the language you speak in Settings, under Recording. Dawn Light writes down any language your device's speech model supports. Summaries and titles work in the languages Apple Intelligence supports. The app's own screens are in English for now.

Entries aren't showing on my iPad

Both devices need to be signed in to the same iCloud account, with Sync with iCloud turned on in Dawn Light's Settings. A change to that setting takes effect the next time the app opens, and a new entry can take a minute or two to arrive.

Reminders

Settings has one daily reminder at the time you choose. It never shows what you said. If it doesn't arrive, check that notifications are allowed for Dawn Light in your device's Settings.

Moving from Day One or Apple Journal

Export your journal from the other app, then in Dawn Light open Settings and tap Import from Day One or Apple Journal, and choose the .zip file it made. Entries keep their dates and photos, and Day One tags come across too. Importing the same file twice adds nothing the second time.

Apple Watch

Recording on Apple Watch is part of Plus. Open Dawn Light on your watch, tap the record button, talk and tap Done. The watch sends the recording to your iPhone, which writes it down, so the entry appears once your iPhone has it.

Canceling Plus

Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select Dawn Light Plus to manage or cancel it. When Plus ends you keep every entry, recording, photo, title and tag you already have, and new entries are still saved with every word.

Deleting your data

In Dawn Light, open Settings and tap "Delete all data". Read the confirmation before continuing. It removes every entry, recording, photo and recap from your device and from your iCloud, and it can't be undone. To keep a copy first, tap Export everything.

Your data

To delete your data, open Settings > Delete all data in Dawn Light. Read how Dawn Light handles your information in the privacy policy.
